DETROIT— U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Ambassador Bridge arrest driver of a commercial semi-truck after encountering him with a loading gun and drugs during outbound operations Friday morning.

On Friday March 18, CBP officers conducting outbound operations at the Ambassador Bridge encountered a 36-year-old male United States citizen hauling produce in a tractor trailer.  During a routine outbound inspection of the commercial vehicle, officers discovered a loaded 9mm Luger CPX-2 along with an additional loaded magazine in the cab. An additional inspection on the driver revealed a glass pipe containing a white residue and a small baggy containing a white powdery substance.

The driver was transported to Fort Street Cargo Facility for further processing and for further testing on the white substance. During processing, the white powdery substance tested positive as methamphetamine.

“Today our officers protected the American homeland at and beyond our borders,” said CBP Port Director Devin Chamberlain. “The roadways our loved ones travel on daily are much safer today because of this apprehension.”

The subject along with his firearm, ammunition, magazine, methamphetamine, and glass pipe were turned over to the Detroit Police Department.
