Wisconsin’s agricultural industry of production, processing, distribution, retail, and services is the largest industry in Wisconsin. With a very high placement record, our programs are a direct feed into the number one industry of the state and region—agriculture.
The School of Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville provides a personal, caring atmosphere. Our students are challenged with problem-solving situations and real-life case studies, and have opportunities to apply classroom theories in practical situations through our on-campus science laboratories, greenhouse, 430-acre university farm, and robust internship program.
There is a diverse array of active clubs and organizations and several nationally competing teams. We encourage students to take advantage of opportunities to participate in these activities to develop leadership, teamwork, communication, presentation, and professional skill, while also providing an enriching social experience.
We aim to be a recognized world leader in undergraduate programs in agriculture, natural resources, and agro-ecology research, and our dedicated faculty and staff work to prepare our students for future career success.

Careers in Agriculture
In the School of Agriculture you have a wide variety of career paths to choose from. People who choose to work in agriculture are often passionate about the cultivation of food, preservation of land, and animal husbandry. Working to make agriculture more sustainable and ecofriendly can have a long-lasting impact for generations to come. Earning an agricultural science degree provides a well-rounded education in the growing field of agriculture, teaching students about land use, farming practices, horticulture, agricultural business, and much more.
While the working environment for many of these roles is primarily outside in rural areas, other positions can be found in office, research, clinical, or manufacturing/production settings in major metropolitan areas.
Internship and opportunities for the School of Agriculture Students
Students enrolled in UW-Platteville’s agriculture programs are encouraged to participate in a variety of internship opportunities working onsite in roles related to their chosen major field of study. Internships are typically 9-12 weeks long, with students earning one academic credit for successful completion of the internship program.
These opportunities are designed to give you a better, hands-on understanding of your chosen career and provide an excellent opportunity to hone your skills and enhance your resume while earning competitive compensation.
Graduates find jobs in a variety of industries with top employers, many of whom take the time to bring representatives to the UW-Platteville Career Fair, held every semester, and partner with us through our internship program.
Our agriculture graduates have been placed with companies that include Accelerated Genetics, Archer Daniels Midland, Case IH, Compeer Financial, Growmark Inc, Insight FS, John Deere, Kuhn North America, Mound City Bank, Select Sires, and Vita Plus.
