Lives Touched by Blood Donation

Briar: Tiny Girl, Big Fight

“We began to see blood transfusions as her elixir of life – Something that’s necessary for her health and strength.”

Isaac: The Right Side of 50/50

“Without that person’s blood, he could not have survived. That act of kindness, as a parent, as a person, there just aren’t enough thank yous.”

Julius: Seventh-Grade Survivor

“Julius’s life saving transplants simply wouldn’t be possible without the blood and platelets that Bloodworks donors give every day.”

  • Bloodworks Vancouver Donor Center Supervisor Dylan Smith enjoys hearing donors share their stories while they give blood. Dylan himself was able to donate for the first time last year due to the FDA’s landmark decision to end the discriminatory MSM deferral. We celebrate everyone who is taking the first step under the new eligibility guidelines to become one of the 1,000 donors it takes each day to keep our blood supply stable.

  • Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. One small and meaningful way you can observe the significance of the day is by taking an hour to donate blood. Your pint of blood will honor fallen heroes and support transfusion-dependent patients at hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest.

We often see community donations drop off around Memorial Day, which makes the need for your donation even more urgent. Schedule your appointment at the link in bio.

  • Emergency Shipment: Overnight, severe storms passed through Oklahoma and Texas, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens more. Responding hospitals have exhausted all local Type O negative blood inventory and requested more units to support patient needs. Bloodworks Northwest is responding with a rush shipment of Type O negative blood to Texas as part of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC). As part of BERC, Bloodworks and 11 other U.S. blood centers are on-call this weekend to support when a community needs help.

Please book an appointment to donate, especially if you are a Type O donor, which is in short supply. Thank you for supporting communities near and far when disasters happen.
