About this app

This App is in support of a national bell tolling initiative called "Bells of Peace" that takes place on 11/11 at 11am local time to honor all those who served and sacrificed in WWI.

“Bells of Peace” is an opportunity for you, your family and friends, your organizations, and your communities to remember this pivotal moment in our Nation’s history when on the 11th hour (local) of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 the guns fell silent and the fighting ceased on the Western Front.

Ways that You Can “Toll the Bells”
Any bell will do! Many organizations and individuals have tolled “Bells of Peace” with bells ranging from church bells, to hand bells, to campus carillons, to firehouse bells.

No bell? No problem!
This “Bells of Peace” Participation App allows you to select from a number of different bell sounds. It counts down and if you and your commemoration community all have the app open and set to auto toll, the phones will all toll together at 11am local on November 11th.

You can also toll the bells manually and/or use the App for any commemoration and remembrance.

But it is more than that. The App will aggregate any social media posts from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. If you tag your post with #BellOfPeace it will come into our management dashboard and we will publish it into the App. We can't promise we will publish everything, but it is a great way to let everyone know how YOU and your organization remembered our Doughboys by participating in Bells of Peace.

Why This Moment is so Important
During the short 18 months that America participated in WWI (April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918), our nation went from a standing army of around 130,000 to deploying nearly 2 million men and women to Europe. It’s in honor of their service that we “Toll the Bells”.

No veteran should ever be forgotten… so this November 11 please take a moment to remember the 4.7 million Americans who put on the uniform for WWI; the over 200,000 that were wounded; and most of all, the 116,516 who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This National and international event is sponsored by the Doughboy Foundation, a non-profit 501C(3) foundation that is dedicated to keeping faith with the Doughboys and all those who served in WWI.

Great idea for memorial participation. App execution needs help. Cannot access different bells, appears that there are parts of the app that are not fully visible. Please correct the functionality. UPDATE: 11/11 I had this app set to automatically toll. IT DID NOT!! I really want to support and continue use of the app however, until the functionality bugs / glitches are worked out I cannot.

Great idea, but it has a glitch. When I tried to select a bell I kept getting the message that my device was muted which it was not. I picked a bell and went back to the toll test and the bell worked, but it didn't go automatically at 11, I had to go in and hit Toll test again, said it was muted but a few seconds later it did go ahead and toll 21 times, several minutes late. Hope this can be fixed before next year. I almost deleted the app since it gave me the error messages

The app worked perfectly for us, was easy to navigate, and the kids enjoyed getting to pick the bell sound together and get it all set beforehand. We have a physical bell on the side of the house that the rang in tandem with the apps chime, and I used a tiny handbell that had been in my grandparents' home (my Grandpa was a Korea vet). We used the app as a guide to know when to kick off our ringing so that we were all in good sync with all the bell ringing for the occasion as a whole.
