We have a great opportunity in our Moses Lake WorkSource office for a non-permanent customer focused Employment Connections Specialist that excels in fast paced environments! As the first point of contact for our diverse customer base our Employment Connections Specialists greet every customer with compassion and respect.

Duties

Whether in the Resource Room facilitating orientations and career services workshops or meeting one on one with a job seeker to assess customers work readiness and employability it is our Employment Connections Specialists' goal to engage our job seekers by offering access to the full array of services available through the WorkSource system. These services increase job seekers skills and ability to find gainful employment into high-quality jobs and careers.

 
What a typical day looks like:
Conduct individual interviews to articulate program services and activities.
Identify components applicable to customer need.
Develop recommendations for continuous engagement.
Keep informed of available external resources and referrals.
Facilitate job preparation activities to include job club services and workshops.
Provide labor market information.
Answer phone calls and direct to program teams; provide timely response and services through all forms of customer service (phone, email, face-to-face).

Qualifications

Required:
  • A Bachelor's degree in social science, business administration or related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in workforce development, social or human resource services, public relations, or professional public contact work.* 
OR 
  • One (1) year of experience as a WorkSource Specialist 2 within the Employment Security Department, or in an equivalent class with another state's Employment Security agency.  
OR 
  • A combination of education and/or relevant experience totaling no less than six (6) years.
 
A Master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

*Such as: unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement and banking.*
 
Additional Requirement of Employment:
  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.

Insurance Benefits
 
Employees and families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance.  There are multiple medical plans with affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout the state.  Staff are eligible to enroll each year in a medical flexible spending account which enables them to use tax-deferred dollars toward their health care expenses.  Employees are also covered by basic life and long term disability insurance, with the option to purchase additional coverage amounts.  To view premium rates, coverage choice in your area and how to enroll, please visit the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) website.
 
Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
