Sevington inland border facility

Updated 1 January 2024

You only need to attend an inland border facility if you’re travelling through the Port of Dover, Eurotunnel or Holyhead and you’re moving:

  • goods under the Common Transit Convention and you’re not using the services of an Authorised Consignor or Consignee (ACC) to start or end your transit movements
  • goods into the country under the Common Transit Convention and you’ve been instructed to report to a site for those goods to be checked

Check excluded goods or vehicles before attending an inland border facility as it may not allow:

  • certain types of vehicles to enter
  • vehicles carrying certain types of goods to enter (for example, those containing hazardous goods or oversized vehicles)

How to access the site

This site is located to the south east of Ashford at junction 10a of the M20, approximately 50 miles south east of London. To access the site, you must follow local traffic management procedures and diversions, which will direct you to and from the site using the strategic road network and public highways. You can use the A2070 dual carriageway, which is adjacent to junction 10a of the M20.

The site has a single access point with separate entrance and exit lanes. This will be a signalised junction on the A2070.

There is a one-way system through the site. This location has two sections: one is a lorry waiting area for traffic management and the other is the inland border facility. You’ll be directed to a vacant heavy good vehicle (HGV) space by traffic management marshals.

Facilities on site

In addition to the standard site facilities (toilets, hand washing and water for all drivers parked on site), this site also offers staff trained in first-aid.

How to exit the site

Once checks are complete, you’ll be given a card to put in your window which permits you to exit the site. To leave the site, you must follow local traffic management procedures and any diversions, which will direct you to and from the site using the strategic road network and public highways. You’ll need to stop at the vehicle exit check point before leaving the parking area.

You can leave the site at the junction with A2070. The exit process is supervised by a senior traffic management marshal.
