Invitation to LCB’s Second Deliberative Dialogue on Cannabis Plant Chemistry

Panel will continue discussion on evaluation of THC compounds: Q&A session included

Members of the public and the cannabis industry are invited to attend a second deliberative dialogue session that will inform rule development related to the evaluation of THC compounds.

On Wednesday, July 7, 2021, the LCB withdrew the first preproposal statement of inquiry      (CR 101) and approved a new CR 101 to open rule development on the evaluation of THC compounds. Rules will consider how the Board will evaluate additives, solvents, ingredients or compounds used in the production or processing of marijuana products to determine whether such substances pose a risk to public health or youth access.

On April 28, 2021, the Board issued Policy Statement Number PS-21-01 about THC compounds. The agency continues to gather information to inform rule development on this topic. Public participation for this rulemaking continues with a second Deliberative Dialogue on Cannabis Plant Chemistry.

LCB’s Policy and Rules manager Kathy Hoffman will moderate the session on July 20, 2021.

How were panelists selected?

For the second panel discussion on this topic, LCB reconvened the majority of discussants from our first session with experience in cannabis plant science as follows:

  • David Gang, Director of the Tissue Imaging and Proteomic Laboratory, WSU
  • Jessica Tonani, CEO of Verda Bio Research
  • Nephi Stella, Stella Lab, Cannabinoid Pharmacology and Neuro-Oncology, UW
  • Brad Douglass, Organic Chemist, The Werc Shop

  • LCB’s Policy and Rules manager Kathy Hoffman will moderate the session. It will begin with information on the topic, panel introductions, and expectations for panelists and participants. The agenda is linked here.
