The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), in cooperation with the NIH's Fogarty International Center, Division of International Training and Research, and the NIH Office of Intramural Research,
offers fellowship awards to support meritorious biomedical and behavioral research projects undertaken in NIH laboratories by young Japanese postdoctoral researchers.

Where should I send my application?
Are the deadlines dates received by or postmarked by?
They are received by deadlines.
When is Japan's Fiscal Year?
Japan's Fiscal Year goes from April 1 to March 31 of each year.
Can I apply if I only have a M.D. degree and no Ph.D.?
No, you must have at least a Ph.D. to apply to the Fellowship.
Can a successful applicant postpone the Fellowship for a year?
No, the successful applicant must start the fellowship of the fiscal year period they applied for. The start date must begin on January 1, February 1, or March 1.
How is an applicant informed if they receive the JSPS fellowship or not?
All applicants will receive a hard copy of a letter from JSPS Tokyo informing them by October if they are successful or not. The successful applicant will then receive an email from JSPS Tokyo on further instructions.
Will the applicants receive their application review comments and score?
Yes, once JSPS notifies all the applicants, NIH will send out the review comments/scores via email to all the applicants.
