Learn to Hunt: Waterfowl

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering a program to teach skills needed to hunt, field dress and cook waterfowl to adults who have little to no waterfowl hunting experience.

The September 10th workshop will feature  knowledge and skills building sessions with instructors that will provide hands-on learning as well as a live- fire wingshooting that will teach the basics.

Participants will learn basic strategies for hunting waterfowl such as proper equipment, where to hunt, safe shooting practices, and how to field dress, butcher and cook them. The wingshooting session will provide lessons on shooting techniques and range time for those looking to improve their shooting skills.

The course runs from 2PM to 7PM and is designed for participants 16 years of age and older.  The cost is $35 for the course and will be held at Olofson Shooting Range near Polk City, IA.  Space is limited so be sure to register right away.

Delta Waterfowl - We work to produce ducks through intensive management programs and conservation of breeding duck habitat. Delta conducts vital waterfowl research, and promotes and protects the continuing tradition of waterfowl hunting in North America.  Be sure to check out the Delta Waterfowl booth at the Iowa Hunt Social to learn more about their upcoming conservation, research, and educational programs serving new and existing waterfowl hunters across the state.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) - The DNR manages fish and wildlife programs, ensures the health of Iowa’s forests and prairies, and provides recreational opportunities in Iowa’s state parks. Just as importantly, the DNR carries out state and federal laws that protect air, land and water through technical assistance, permitting and compliance programs. The DNR also encourages the enjoyment and stewardship of natural resources among Iowans through outreach and education.  Hunter Education Instructors and Conservation Officers will be on hand during the Iowa Hunt Social to answer questins about hunting regulations, hunter education requirements, places to hunt, fish, or shoot, upcoming hunter education classes, and other outdoor recreational pursuits and opportunities.
