From the Mayor

It’s getting to be the best time of year to get out and enjoy our great city. Specialty classes at Skyline Regional Park are underway, youth sports and recreation programs are in full swing and the 82nd Annual Halloween Carnival was another great success. Thank you to everyone who attended this amazing event.

We’ll be celebrating the holidays in style again this year too. Buckeye City Hall and all of downtown will be lit up for the holidays. It’s worth the trip to see the light displays and the many fun family photo ops available to create great memories when you drop off your letters to Santa next to our enormous holiday tree on the 6th Street Plaza.

Our popular Hometown Holiday Lights Contest kicks off November 14. This is your chance to showcase your home and decorating skills for the entire city to see. All entries are displayed on an interactive map so your neighbors can create their own route to see the lights and visit other great neighborhoods in Buckeye like yours, to spread holiday cheer. Judging begins the weekend of December 10, with winners announced on December 20.

Besides all the great events on the city calendar, we are also busy planning our future. The Buckeye Library just kicked off a Master Plan process, and there are several ways for you to “be in the know”. Several public meetings are planned the week of Oct. 17 where you can hear our ideas and give us feedback on what we’re missing in the process. More details on the city’s website at buckeyeaz.gov/libraryplan

Plans to revitalize Downtown Buckeye are also in the works with the Downtown Specific Area Plan underway. This plan studies the current land uses in the downtown area, and with your input, will help us create the vision for downtown over the next 20 years. This includes transportation, recreation, land use and economic development. You can learn more at buckeyeaz.gov/downtownplan

There are a ton of other great things happening in Buckeye right now, but not enough space to here to fit them all in. I hope to see you at one of our special events, like the Dog Days of Buckeye November 12, the official city tree lighting event November 26, the Buckeye Marathon January 7 and of course, the Buckeye Air Fair February 17 through 19.

Remember, you can keep up with the latest news and events, including the progress on the I-10 widening project between SR 85 and Verrado Way, by following me on social media, Facebook
