A bipartisan coalition of Oregon legislators are at work on one of the state’s biggest economic development initiatives in years, a broad package of bills that may allocate $300 million or more to revitalize the region’s semiconductor industry.

“My priority, No. 1, is to turn the corner on looking at how we invest in business and grow business in the state,” said Rep. Janelle Bynum, D-Clackamas, co-chair of the Legislature’s newly created semiconductor committee, which includes members of the House and Senate. Bynum will help lead its work on ambitious proposals touching the state’s tax structure, environmental regulations, land-use policy and education system.
