Language Mentor: Language mentors are primarily responsible for leading and assisting with afternoon and evening activities as well as assisting with enforcement of residence hall rules such as lights out. Language mentors are expected to use mornings to plan, handle the mail, and prepare for afternoon and evening activities, always planning several days in advance. Language mentors, with the assistance of teachers, lead afternoon activities such as video production, theater, dance, chorus, newspaper, sports, conversation groups, etc. (These vary by Academy.) Although teachers and language mentors work in conjunction for afternoon activities, these are expected to be led by the language mentors, and assisted by the teachers, unless specified otherwise by the director. Evening programs may include game nights, films, guest lectures, seminars, and cultural simulations. Staff time off must be planned ahead, and equally distributed among staff members at the academy.

For student disciplinary issues, Language mentors may warn students for minor infractions but should refrain from dealing with serious issues, in which case they should immediately notify the director, a teacher, or the program coordinator. Language mentors might be fairly close in age to the students and must also remember that they are here as staff members and should maintain appropriate social distance from the students.

All staff members are expected to participate in field trips and special events, unless the director has excused them from doing so.

Lead Language Mentor: In addition to the language mentor duties described below, lead language mentors, with support from the lead teacher, or director, assign and monitor the duties of the other language mentors. The lead language mentor will be expected to work with the lead language mentors from the other academies to organize international events and projects (International Ball, International Talent Show, etc.). The lead staff (director, lead teacher, and lead language mentor) will arrive one day prior to the remaining staff to set up the Academy office and continue planning. Staff time off must be planned ahead, and equally distributed among staff members at the academy.
