Awarded Sites
INDOT has selected 39 sites along Indiana’s interstate highway system as the first round of EV fast charging stations that will be funded by the Charging the Crossroads program
INDOT anticipates the installation of initial charging stations at these sites to begin in 2025.
39 Awarded Sites were selected from more than 100 applications for bids submitted to INDOT in response to the program’s first Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) released on August 31, 2023. Applications were accepted through November 22, 2023.
INDOT conducted a thorough and deliberate review of all applications received, considering both the qualifications of each applicant and the quality of their application(s). Awarded sites were announced on March 28, 2024.
Awarded sites are contingent on applicants contracting with INDOT and completing required pre-construction activities. Final awarded sites are subject to change.
Later this year, INDOT anticipates a release of a second NOFO for the Charging the Crossroads program focused on addressing the remaining gaps in the state’s EV charging network. Charging stations must be installed every 50 miles along Indiana’s AFCs, within one mile of the corridor to meet federal build out requirements.

Alternative Fuel Corridors
Alternative Fuel Corridors are interstates or highways that have been designated by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to support the installation of EV infrastructure at strategic locations along major national highways.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has approved INDOT’s Round 7 Alternative Fuel Corridor (AFC) nominations.
The newly approved AFCs include:
- US 30 between I-65 and I-69
- SR-62 (from SR-69 to SR-66) and SR-66 (from SR-62 to I-69)
- US 36 (from Ronald Regan Parkway to I-465)
- US 40 ((from Ronald Regan Parkway to I-465)
- US 50 (from IL state line to OH state line)
- US 41 (from I-80/94 to SR 63)
- SR 63 (from US 41 Carbondale to US 41 Terre Haute)
- US 41 (from Terre Haute to KY State line)
FHWA approval permits federal funding from the NEVI program to be used on these AFCs. INDOT will have the opportunity to include these corridors in future procurements as part of the Charging the Crossroads program.
Previously approved AFCs include: US 31, I-465, I-469, I-64, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-80, I-94, I-265
