Overview and Eligible Uses:
This program aims to support the recycling of consumer electronics batteries and battery-containing devices to bolster the domestic critical material supply chain for EV batteries. Funded projects will address one of the following topic areas:
Increasing consumer understanding of and participation in existing battery recycling programs
Improving the economics of the battery recycling process – collection, transportation, preprocessing, storage, and safety
Establishing state and local programs for battery recycling
Establishing retail programs for sustainable battery recycling
Amount: DOE anticipates $125M in total program funding and 31-70 awards. Award sizes vary by topic area, with a minimum anticipated award of $500k and a maximum anticipated award of $10M.

A wide range of domestic entities are eligible, including:
Individuals
Institutions of higher education
For-profit and non-profit
State and local government entities
Tribal nations
Federally-funded R&D centers and federal research agencies - may apply as a prime recipient or subrecipient for topic areas 1 & 2, but may only apply as a subrecipient for topic areas 3 & 4
Key Dates: Concept papers are due on August 17, 2023. Full applications are due November 29, 2023.
