📢 Attention Maryland Employers! The Maryland Economic Stabilization Act has undergone key amendments, impacting notification procedures and benefits for workers in cases of mass layoffs and terminations. As of October 1, 2020, compliance is mandatory for employers with 50+ employees operating in the state for at least a year. Ensure you're informed about the updated notice requirements! Notices must be given to affected employees, the Dislocated Worker Unit, and elected officials in the affected jurisdiction. The details should encompass the worksite, a designated contact person, the nature of the reduction (permanent or temporary), and the expected start date. Transparency is key in navigating reductions in operations, which now include relocating operations to another site. Stay compliant, stay informed! For more details, consult the Maryland Department of Labor. 🏢💼 To learn more about how these kinds of amendments can affect you and your team, reach out to us here at: https://lnkd.in/ehAiU32j #MarylandBusiness #EmployeeRights #WorkplaceCompliance #InsuranceMatters #ProtectYourAssets #PeaceOfMind #LyceumInsurance #InsuranceSolutions #InsuranceCoverage #Maryland #Baltimore #LocalBusinesses #MarylandSmallBusiness #FrederickCountyProud

As business owners and directors, you, whether you know it or not, are very likely to have #unpaid #carers working for you. If you employ people in their 50s and 60s, there is a high chance that they are caring for a parent (maybe both parents) or possibly a partner. Younger employees may also be caring for a grandparent, parent, sibling, or child. Unpaid carers often won't talk openly about it. It can take an unpaid carer up to 7 years to acknowledge that they are an unpaid carer for a loved one. The fact that you don’t know doesn’t mean that it’s not a potential issue for them, for you and your business. One in seven people are juggling work and caring responsibilities. 75% of carers in employment worry about this. I'm one of them. Caring for a loved one can have a significant negative impact on an individual’s own health and wellbeing. To find out more please contact me at david.annand@ccsurrey.org.uk and I'll happily explain how Crossroads Care Surrey can support unpaid carers working for you.
Whether you are a small or large business, research shows that by supporting unpaid carers and using a flexible working approach, you will have better staff retention, reduce recruitment and training costs and increase productivity. Crossroads Care Surrey are excited to announce The Employers Hub for Unpaid Caring, a new resource to help employers support carers in their workforce. As the United States grapples with economic recovery from the pandemic, it faces an unexpected labor issue - millions of job openings but not enough workers to fill them. Northern Kentucky, despite boasting low unemployment rates and a high civilian workforce, is feeling the effects as well. The "Great Resignation," rapid aging of the workforce, and a decline in immigration are contributing to the predicament. With baby boomers approaching retirement, there aren't enough younger generations available to fill the void. Businesses are encouraging "reasonable legal immigration solutions" while experts advocate for improvements in quality-of-life investments, regional housing supply, and worker skills training. Meanwhile, automation emerges as a partial solution, but with the consequence of widening the income gap. Can Northern Kentucky, like many regions in the U.S., overcome this challenging situation? We welcome your thoughts on how to win the battle for talent in this unexpected labor landscape. https://lnkd.in/gkvy7BWn

UP, UP, UP WITH THE WORKERS! Workers from Neighborhood Defenders Services picketed outside the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit today as part of a National Week of Action to win a fair contract! UAW ALAA Local 2325 represents workers at the Neighborhood Defender Service in New York, Detroit, and Texas. Workers are bargaining their second contract, but have been stonewalled by management after 5 bargaining sessions. The workers are demanding: 1. Competitive Living Wages & Benefits: We must stop losing our colleagues to other organizations which pay them more to do the same work, and we must ensure that no NDS employee is working a second or third job to make ends meet. 2. Sustainable Workload: We must ensure that every client is getting stellar representation and that our members are not impeded in doing everything possible for our clients due to a crushing workload. We need clear and quantifiable workload maximums in our contract and the ability to enforce those maximums. 3. Flexibility and Resources: We are committed to our jobs and need appropriate flexibility from NDS in order to zealously represent our clients. This includes telecommuting flexibility based on actual job requirements, appropriate leave to prevent burnout, and the tools and resources we need to do our jobs effectively. Join them on the picket this week: TEXAS: Wednesday 7/26 at 1 pm ET/12pm CT join virtually or in person in Texas. Go to @NDSUnion on Instagram for details on how to join. NYC: Thursday, 7/27 at 1 pm ET, in NYC outside 100 Lafayette. #FulfillThePromiseNDS

#Ageism is rampant in the workplace and its starts with #recruiting. Businesses and hiring managers have a million reasons why they THINK they should not hire an older individual, and they can all be disputed and dispelled with research and facts. The truth is, we have a #talentshortage that cannot be overcome without including #olderworkers as part of your #deistrategy and #hiring practices. If you are an older individual looking for work, consider this webinar. If you cannot attend, Changing the Narrative, a leading anti-ageism initiative is a great resource for you.
Are you an older worker or someone who helps older people get hired? Join us Tuesday June 20 for a workshop with expert Lisa Jensen of Workforce Boulder County on strategies for older workers. Don't miss this popular seminar full of useful tips and real world advice. #olderworkers #strategiesforsuccess https://ed.gr/eg5ed

On this Labor Day, I am proud to work alongside Acting Secretary Julie Su, DOL colleagues, the White House, Partner4Work Pittsburgh, and my other Mayor’s office colleagues on the #Pittsburgh #WorkforceHub. “In order to keep this progress going and to deliver on the promise of good jobs in every community, we need to continue recruiting, training, and hiring local workers to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and to create a diverse, skilled workforce pipeline that includes veterans, Black workers, women, people with disabilities, workers of color, rural workers, justice-impacted individuals, those without a four-year degree, and more. The workforce system is infrastructure too — the roads and bridges that connect workers to the good jobs they want and need, and employers to the people they want and need. And this workforce system, just like our physical roads and bridges, needs some attention too. It’s got some cracks and some potholes, and it doesn’t connect to all communities the way it should. Under Biden’s leadership, we’re creating a workforce system infrastructure that’s going to be as strong as the physical infrastructure we’re building. That’s why we’re working closely with unions, employers, colleges, community organizations and workforce boards on the ground, and local leaders like Mayor Ed Gainey, to create new workforce training programs that are building pathways to all the good jobs we’re creating from these public and private investments.” https://lnkd.in/gqAFvUjt #disadvantagedworkers #workforceequity #labor #laborday #workforce #workforcedevelopment #goodjobs

DISRESPECTFUL! The salary ranges on job discriptions are DISRESPECTFUL! $25/hr doesn't cover what it used to. $35/hr either. To afford $2,407 rent for a one bedroom in Los Angeles without assistance a person needs: $45/hr $7,221/mo $86,652/yr If folks are expected to make 3x the rent and $2K is the rent, and the rule applies to gross, then folks need to be getting $37.50/hr, $6K/mo, $72K/yr. Folks like Outreach Workers, Case Managers, and Housing Navigators are being low-balled and disrespected. If it’s true for them, then salaries need to be taken up across the board so employees are not forced into shared living. This is how employees are qualifying for homeless services, problem solving services, prevention services… This is why people move on for an extra $2, yes, two dollars, which doesn’t make much difference at all and leaves behind the participants who were building vital relationships with them. I helped a few people look for jobs this year. I saw positions reposted with lower salaries a few times. That's another post. Shout out to the folks working multiple jobs to prevent themselves and their families from hitting the streets ❤️ Apologies to those stuck in unhealthy, unsafe living environments because they can't afford to bounce.💜 #LivableWages #IncreaseThePay💲 #StopContributingToTheProblem #MoreMoney #BringYourHeartToWork❤️ #Prevention #PreventionIsTheSolution #RespectableWages ✊🏽
