Residents of North Vancouver got a surprise diversion from the COVID-19 crisis Tuesday evening when a massive hail storm, complete with ultra-rare thunder and lightning, roared through town.

Physical distancing citizens emerged from their homes to document the rare early spring event, crowding social media channels with images and videos of a town painted white by hail. We asked readers to submit their favourite shots to our Facebook page, and they responded with white gold.

Twitter was also buzzing with neat images of the storm. The culprit was a pair of storm cells that passed through Metro Vancouver Tuesday evening bringing with them rain, hail and lightning, with a chance of wet flurries possible overnight and into Wednesday morning, according to Environment Canada. pic.twitter.com/DOafQGpVmr
