Today's #WOWWednesday shines the spotlight on Kat Dirickson, Leon County Facilities Manager. Kat joined the County in 2020 and is now the facility manager for the Sherriff's Office Campus. In her time with the County, she has served as a local lead during the ESG Energy Conservation Project, replacing outdated equipment with more energy efficient models. She regularly coordinates security checks, scheduling, and major replacement projects for contractors. Kat's favorite part of the job is the Facilities Management team that she is a part of. She says they all have been welcoming and supportive since she first transitioned onto the team, especially Facilities Management Director Michael Boland and Resource Stewardship Director Maggie Theriot. "I actually enjoy my job!" she said. Kat is a member of International Facility Management Association (IFMA), is certified as a Facility Management Professional and Sustainability Facility Professional with IFMA. Notably, Kat is continuing her education at Florida State University. When Kat isn't working, she is studying, and when she isn't studying, she loves to go kayaking or travel. She looks forward to her graduation next year so that she can enjoy more free time! We appreciate all the hard work, dedication, and skill that you bring to the County everyday. Thank you, Kat!

Today for Take Your Child to Work Day, we welcomed 3rd through 8th grade students into various County departments! These students shadowed their parents, exploring different roles and discovering how we serve the community. For today's #WOWWednesday we are featuring Calvin Holton, Transfer Station Superintendent with Leon County Solid Waste. Calvin began working for Leon County in 2001 as a Landfill Spotter and has now been promoted to Transfer Station Superintendent, diligently serving the County for a total of 23 years. His work at the Transfer Station includes ensuring the safety of staff within a facility of high traffic and large equipment and managing the efficiency of 800 -1,000 tons of garbage being processed at the station each day. When asked what he enjoys most about working at the County, Calvin describes that it is the people. "I have had the privilege to meet and work with some wonderful people," he says. Outside of work, he spends time traveling and loves to engage in personal fitness, motorsports, and basketball. Thank you, Calvin, for your good work and commitment to what you do at the County!

Today for #WOWWednesday, we're featuring Mindy Conney, Human Services Specialist with Human Services and Community Partnerships. Mindy has been with the County since March 2022, when she was hired for a temporary position and later moved up to a full-time position. Among her many responsibilities, Mindy coordinates the Indigent Cremation and Burial Program and supports the human services grant program. Her favorite thing about working for the County is the opportunity to connect with the community. In her free time, Mindy can be found enjoying a movie, traveling, working on art projects, and reading books, graphic novels, and comics. She hopes to take a class later this year to learn how to use pastels. She also loves spending time with her much-adored American Bulldog rescue, Pirate. Thank you, Mindy, for all you do for the community!

For this #WOWWednesday, we're featuring Wayne Salls, Housing Rehabilitation Specialist in the Housing Services Division. Wayne has served with the County for two years. During that time, he has helped coordinate the annual Spring Home Expo and served as block captain and team lead during the 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service in 2023. His favorite part about being with the County is "working behind the scenes with our contractors to assist our residents who don’t have the financial means to afford repairs to their homes. I feel proud knowing that our work has helped keep someone in a home that they otherwise might not be able to live in without programs available through Housing Services." When he's not working, Wayne enjoys time outside fishing, gardening, metal detecting, beekeeping, and taking care of his chickens, and spending time with his family. This #WOWWednesday we are highlighting Michael Boland, Facilities Management Director, who has been with the County for just over 10 years! Michael has successfully taken the lead on many projects during his time here. Some of the more recent include the implementation of the recent ESCO energy project, installation of roof top solar arrays at Bruce Host Branch Library, Transfer Station, and Fleet facility, the replacement of the interior security doors at Leon County Detention Center and the installation of the new generator located at Richardson-Lewis Health Department. "There is a family-feel at Leon County," Michael says. "There's a lot of fellowship and camaraderie that occurs naturally here. Being able to rely on people you work with is the true path to our success!" As a member of the State of Florida Certified Electrical Contractor, the State of Florida Certified Air Conditioning Contractor, the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Michael's subject expertise and professional conduct continue to make him an outstanding employee. Outside of work, he is an avid bowler and loves to travel with his wife. Michael, thank you for all of your fantastic work for Leon County!
