Placer Shares grant funding applications are coming soon

Placer shares.

Beginning Aug. 25, eligible small businesses and nonprofit organizations in Placer County can start applying for grant funding to offset impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting state stay-at-home order. Learn more


CAL FIRE contract includes funding for new fire marshal

A new fire marshal position will be added to the CAL FIRE contract renewal, approved through a resolution at Tuesday's meeting of the Placer County Board of Supervisors. The $13.6 million annual contract continues year-round fire protection and prevention, and emergency medical response, for approximately 475 square miles of unincorporated county land. Read more


New rebate program for lodging projects in North Tahoe

The Board of Supervisors this week approved a new transient occupancy tax rebate program intended to spur investment in lodging projects in North Lake Tahoe. Learn more


Alcohol ban extended on the Truckee River

Addressing health and safety concerns resulting from a recent increase in activity along the Truckee River, the Board of Supervisors has temporarily extended an alcohol ban on the river until Oct. 15. Learn more

Prioritizing mobility around the Lake Tahoe Basin, Placer County is seeking public feedback on a draft transportation plan. Residents can weigh in on key proposed strategies related to parking, on-demand transit, reducing traffic and more. Learn more


Agriculture officials warn of unsolicited seeds from China

Placer County’s Agriculture Commissioner is warning residents not to open or plant unsolicited seeds received through the U.S. Postal Service. The California Department of Food and Agriculture has recently become aware of a number of reports regarding unsolicited seeds from China being received by homeowners throughout the country, including Placer County. Yankee Jims parking is now closed

Over the past few weeks, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and partners have seen a dramatic increase in the number of out-of-town visitors coming to Yankee Jims bridge. This presents a huge public safety danger and could block first responder access to the bridge in the event of any emergency or fire. As a result, California State Parks is closing all parking at Yankee Jims. Learn more


Mourning the passing of community leader Dr. Bryce Jessup

Placer County joins the William Jessup University community in mourning the passing of Dr. Bryce Jessup this week. Dr. Jessup moved the university to its permanent home in Rocklin and made many significant contributions to our community.
