As our Virtual Machine/Storage Area Network (VM/SAN) Storage Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, reliability and integrity of ESD’s critical enterprise storage infrastructure and associated resources. You will be part of a team that is integral to the successful implementation of the enterprise virtual machine (VM) environment and the storage area network (SAN) which houses over 95% of the agency’s data and server infrastructure. Your ability to independently gather requirements and develop and implement enterprise infrastructure solutions according to approved polices, best practices and regulatory requirements will ensure that our systems are always available and highly responsive in providing services to our customers.

Duties

In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, operation, reliability and integrity of the ESD enterprise storage, server, backup, replication, DR/COOP, virtualization and cloud system infrastructure. In addition, you will also serve as the technical storage expert, continuously improving the effectiveness and efficiency of IT processes and services and facilitate and promote cross-training and knowledge transfer within the Infrastructure Services team. We value independent, innovative and cost-effective solutions to design, develop, implement, support and maintain the ESD storage infrastructure.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or closely related field.
AND 
Seven (7) years of IT experience that includes the following:

  • Designing, managing, operating and maintaining enterprise data storage systems (NetApp, etc.)
  • Data backup and recovery solutions
  • Load balancing appliances (F5, etc,)
  • Virtual server systems (vCenter, HyperV, etc.)
  • VMWare NSX
  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • Utilizing knowledge of business administration and application development to design technical solutions

OR a combination of education and/or relevant IT experience equating to 11* years.

The most successful candidate would also have experience with the following:
  • Demonstrated experience with hands-on technical implementation of storage and systems networks.
  • Ability to perform day-to-day management and security of a storage network environment.
  • Ability to implement upgrades and/or modifications to storage network configurations.
  • Experience administering network file systems such as NFS/CIFS in Windows (AD, DFS), Linus/Unix, and virtualized environments.
  • Experience administering NetApp storage arrays.
  • Experience architecting storage solutions in a NAS or SAN environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing data recovery tools and concepts at the application and database level.
  • Extensive skill in planning, design, administration, operation and troubleshooting virtualized networks utilizing VMWare, Microsoft and/or Citrix.
  • Experience with SDN and cloud technologies such as VMWare NSX, vRealize Automation, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience with VMware NSX and all underlying technologies. Including configuration, administration and maintenance.

Please Note: This position also requires that you are able to lift up to 40 lbs and have the ability to travel occasionally statewide.
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • CompTIA Network + Certification or equivalent experience/training.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
