Representatives from the State of Michigan, including Michigan Govenor, Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Senator Stephanie Chang and WDBA officials gather to accounce the design of the US Pedestrian Bridge

On January 9, 2020, Michigan Govenor, Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Senator Stephanie Chang, joined the Gordie Howe International Bridge team to announce the aesthetic design of the five new pedestrian bridges which will benefit the communities of Detroit.

The pedestrian bridges will be located over Interstate 75 (I-75) in Detroit at Solvay Street, Beard Street, Waterman Street, Junction Street and Lansing Street. Existing bridges will be replaced, and avenues will be upgraded to ensure wider sidewalks and bike lanes are available. Pedestrians impacted by the Gordie Howe International Bridge project will be provided with eco-friendly opportunities for alternative forms of travel that will advance both the community and economy.

“This project is good for the Detroit community, our economy, and for the countless people who will use these new pedestrian bridges to get where they need to go,” said Governor Whitmer. “When working on this project, it’s crucial that we put Detroiters’ well-being first, and that’s exactly what we’ve done here today. I’m proud to take part in this announcement and am eager to continue working with these partners on the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.”
