Mayor Neeley Welcomes Gov. Whitmer To Flint Vaccination Clinic

FLINT, Michigan—Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley welcomed Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday to a Flint vaccination site, highlighting efforts to do outreach and ensure the vaccine is accessible to all.

“We still have work to do to fight this deadly virus. Getting vaccinated is another important tool as well as wearing masks, washing hands, and staying socially distant,” Mayor Neeley said. “By working together with our partners and following the guidance of scientists and health providers, we will be victorious.”

Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church was one of the first vaccination clinics set up in the City of Flint as part of efforts to make the vaccine accessible to hard-to-reach residents. Gov. Whitmer highlighted the clinic as part of the state’s efforts to administer 100,000 vaccines a day to help achieve her goal of vaccinating 70 percent of residents 16 years and older as soon as possible.

Genesee County has administered 214,919 vaccine doses and 95,989 residents are fully vaccinated.

Mayor Neeley, who received two doses of Moderna is fully vaccinated, also noted that free rides to vaccination appointments are being offered by the Mass Transportation Authority through its Rides to Wellness program.
