Veterans have free access to a new digital library of employment and small business resources and accessible skills training.
Syracuse University’s D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and Syracuse University Libraries and the School of Information Studies (iSchool) recently launched the IVMF Digital Library.
IVMF Digital Library
The IVMF Digital Library aims to ease common challenges faced by Veterans, service members and their families. The library provides employment and entrepreneurship resources, in addition to accessible skills training.
Currently, two curated collections pair materials with the needs of Veterans. The Employing Veteran and Military Family Talent Collection (which can be found under “Employment and Economic Opportunity”) has been curated by a team of experts to empower national employers. These resources include the latest insights, tools, research and data to facilitate a collaborative and strategic approach to employing military-connected individuals.
One example is a panel with Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin and Wells Fargo, and it discusses Veteran careers in STEM. This content provides insight for Veterans wishing to pursue a career in STEM. It provides individuals exploring for the first time with organizations or people they can reach out to and learn more.
Entrepreneurship collection
The Entrepreneurship collection offers both original IVMF research and content for Veterans, including articles, videos, infographics and websites that deliver insights and advice. These resources are tailored specifically for Veteran entrepreneurs to help in the success of their small businesses.
One of the pieces in this collection is “10 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Small-Business Attorney,” by Entrepreneur.com. This quick read provides a resource for Veterans growing their small businesses. There are several of these quick-tip guides for Veteran entrepreneurs in this collection.
Outreach
Additionally, the IVMF Digital Library is a tool for community outreach. The IVMF Digital Library can provide community stakeholders with unique insight into issues impacting Veterans and their families. Community stakeholders will be able access data and research to advocate for policy-level change to support Veterans in their communities.
The IVMF has so far supported more than 170,000 service members and their families with innovative programs. The IVMF Digital Library expands outreach of research and programs which are provided to over 250,000 service members transitioning annually. The IVMF Digital Library is free-to-use, and contains content created by IVMF’s team of researchers.
