The Community Services Block Grant supports and funds programs and services available in your community. The Department of Public Social Services is the designated Community Action Agency (CAA) that oversees community programs and services in Los Angeles County and manages the County's CSBG program.
The CSBG program was originally part of the War on Poverty under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and passed by the United States Congress, which created the CAA's and established the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) to administer the local application of federal funds targeted against poverty.
The CSBG Program has a mandated advisory board under federal law called the Community Action Board (CAB) that oversees the implementation of the various social service poverty programs funded with the County’s CSBG allocation.

During the year 2023, the State of California provided Los Angeles County with $6.3 million in CSBG funds, which were utilized to provide services to over 6,700 low-income individuals with over 5,400 families through over 40 Community-Based Organizations.
