What is psilocybin, and can it help with mental health and addiction? Also known as magic mushrooms, mushrooms, or shrooms, psilocybin is considered a psychedelic drug—a type of drug that affects how the brain processes a chemical called serotonin. The effects of taking psilocybin are hard to predict and can vary widely from person to person. New research from San Francisco VA Medical Center shows that veterans with chronic pain value discussions with their health care providers about natural products. However, patients’ perceptions that providers are biased against the products can have a negative effect on the patient-provider relationship. This work was supported by NCCIH and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) and published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine. https://bit.ly/4bOA4zw #NaturalProducts #DietarySupplements #ChronicPain #Veterans #HealthResearch

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease that causes pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints. It occurs when the immune system attacks the membrane lining the joints. Supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), or the herb thunder god vine may help relieve RA symptoms. The FDA has warned consumers about dietary supplements promoted for arthritis pain that are tainted with prescription drugs. https://bit.ly/3xVrgcG #ArthritisAwarenessMonth #Arthritis #DietarySupplements
