WASHINGTON
– Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), president pro tempore emeritus of the U.S.
Senate and family farmer, today received the President’s Award for his
leadership and commitment to advocating for Iowa’s corn growers and
agriculture. This award is the highest and most prestigious recognition given
by the National Corn Growers Association, an organization representing the
interests of U.S. corn growers. The award was presented to Grassley during the
NCGA’s Corn Congress events in Washington, D.C.
“I
am honored and humbled to receive this lifetime achievement award. As a proud
Iowa Corn Growers Association member and one of only two farmers in the U.S.
Senate, I am committed to being a voice for American agriculture and advocating
for the family farmer. I am a strong advocate for year-round E-15, which
creates another source of revenue for Iowa corn farmers. I appreciate the work
the National Corn Growers Association does to represent corn growers across the
U.S., and I look forward to continue working together to support Iowa farmers,”
Grassley said.
“Sen.
Grassley has spent his career advocating on behalf of corn growers. Whether
it’s taking a stand on regulations burdensome to farmers, advancing
agricultural exports through trade or supporting legislation that will extend
access to higher ethanol blends, we would not have secured the policy successes
we have over the years were it not for the contributions of the senior senator
from Iowa. As an Iowan, it’s my honor to recognize Sen. Grassley with the NCGA
President’s Award for his tireless work on behalf of the agricultural
community,” Chris Edgington, National
Corn Growers Association President and farmer from St. Ansgar, Iowa said.
Grassley,
who holds leadership positions on the Senate Judiciary, Agriculture, Finance
and Budget Committees, has been a long-time advocate of family farmers. Grassley
continues to support year-round E-15 and biofuels as an energy source to
benefit the economy and environment. In July 2021, Grassley joined a bipartisan
group of senators to reintroduce the
Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act. This bill would
increase market access and allow for the continued sale of ethanol blends at
the pumps. He also joined Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) to introduce the
Home Front Energy Independence Act, a bill that
calls for year-round E-15 and switching from Russian oil exports to clean,
American renewable energy. Grassley also supported the recently passed
bipartisan
infrastructure law,
spurring economic investment opportunities for Iowa’s road, bridges and waterways
that corn growers depend on to transport their products across the nation.
