Congratulations to World Food Prize Foundation #FoodPrize24 laureate co-winners Dr. Geoff Hawtin and Dr. Cary Fowler (U.S. Department of State’s Special Envoy for Global Food Security Dr. Cary Fowler) — recognized for their leadership advocating for and preserving crop diversity around the world, including the creation of the very first global seed vault, which holds more than 1 million crop varieties from more than 6,000 major species. Truly resilient leadership that benefits all humankind. #GlobalFoodSecurity

🎙️ #Cobalt — key to lithium-ion batteries, but also electronics, jet engines and energy storage. Cobalt can be recycled and reused over and over, which is critical to the sustainability of the green energy transition. Today I highlighted the Minerals Security Partnership and #MSP Forum, and complementary initiatives such as #MINVESTpartnership — tools by which the United States and partners seek to accelerate the growth of diverse and sustainable critical mineral supply chains. Not only do we want to build secure and reliable critical minerals supply chains, but we’re also committed to supporting projects that adhere to high #ESG principles. We’ve already made tremendous progress. And we’re not doing it alone. Pleased that Cobalt Institute brought us together at #CobaltCongress 2024 to discuss ways we can work across sectors to diversify mineral supply chains for the #EnergyTransition. Because we solve this together. True for cobalt, for other critical minerals, and for the global energy transition at large. . . . . The Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) is delivering on expanding business opportunities in the minerals resource space, which has economic benefits and demonstrates our efforts to secure critical minerals supply chains. With the support of #MSP, 🇧🇪 Umicore and 🇨🇩 Gecamines S.A. finalized a cooperation on germanium productions and offtake, increasing diverse and resilient supply chains, local value-addition, and beneficiation in places like the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Germanium, used in semiconductors, optical cables, solar cells, and more, is an example mineral that touches daily lives. Through MSP, we're creating opportunities for collaboration between partners and the private sector to secure these critical supply chains. Congrats, again, Gecamines and Umicore! “They're also seeing that our trade is a little bit different from that of other countries. Our trade isn't just four or five commodities. It's not just copper, soy beans. It's value-added products that bring technology, jobs — that actually foster development. So I think in Latin America, we are pushing on an open door.” #latinamerica #americalatina #westernhemisphere #internationaltrade #comerciointernacional #nearshoring #uschinacompetition #criticalminerals
We welcome competition. It's good for the region.
