TWRA Shooting Ranges in Tennessee

TWRA offers several shooting ranges and hunter education centers throughout the state for public use.  In addition, we partner with federal and other archery ranges. 

Make sure to check with each range and center to see what is offered and what permits you need. 

TWRA Range Permits, Fees and Information

Perits required for anyone 16 years of age and older using a TWRA Range.   Tier 1 Permits are not required for any annual license holders.

  • Tier 1 Range 2hr $5.00  or Annual $100.00
  • Tier 2 Range 2hr $7.50 or Annual $150.00
  • Tier 3 Range 1hr $9.50 or Annual $300.00

Gun Range Closure

Located on the Cheatham Wildlife Management Area at 1299 Headquarters Road in Ashland City, TN, normal operating hours are 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily.

This is a Tier 1 range and users are required to possess either a valid annual TWRA license or purchase a range permit. Permits can be purchased online at GoOutdoorsTennessee.com.

Only cash and checks are accepted at the range. If you would like to purchase a permit with a credit/debit card online prior to attending the range, please use https://gooutdoorstennessee.com/  you can also use the TWRA On The Go App from your mobile device to purchase a permit before going to the range.

Shotguns are allowed with slug ammunition only.

Stones River Hunter Education Centers offers a wide variety of activities for the entire family, including two firearm ranges (1 pistol range and 1 rifle range) and an archery range.   

Pistol range: 15-yard range (30 positions, including 2 wheelchair-accessible positions)

Rifle range: 100-yard range (18 positions, including 1 wheelchair-accessible position)

Rifle range: 200-yard range (2 positions)

6 target sight-in archery range

Hunter Education classes are also periodically taught at the center, and several events take place throughout the year at the center as well.

Firearms must be unloaded & in a case or bag. No open or concealed carry is allowed on range property. 

Eye and ear protection are required for everyone entering the range.

Targets are available for purchase at the range.
