Selecting a medical plan

Most employees have three medical plan options: Kaiser Permanente's SmartCare ConnectRegence BlueShield's KingCare Select, and Regence BlueShield's KingCare PPO

Check out all three options and make an informed decision on which plan is best suited for you and your family.

In addition, you can view the Washington Health Alliance Quality Composite Scores to compare the performance of medical groups and clinics.

Watch a video about how to choose a medical plan that's right for you.

Things to keep in mind:

  • If you have coverage through another employer’s medical plan, you may opt out of medical coverage and receive an additional $65 in monthly pay, taxed as ordinary income.
  • When you cover a spouse/state-registered domestic partner who has access to medical coverage through an employer, and you choose the KingCare PPO medical plan, you will pay a monthly Benefit Access Fee for your spouse/domestic partner’s medical coverage. Note: There are no Benefit Access Fees for employees who choose the Kaiser SmartCare or Regence KingCare Select medical plans. There are no Benefit Access Fees for covering children on your medical plan and Benefit Access Fees do not apply to dental and vision coverage.
  • If you and your spouse/state-registered domestic partner are both county employees, you may not cover each other as dependents, however you may each cover eligible children up to age 26.
