Tools that will be impacted:
MyTree Design Planting API access
i-Tree’s flagship software that estimates the structure, function, and value of trees and forests is Windows based i-Tree Eco. i-Tree also provides online tools that run in most modern web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). We recently updated i-Tree Eco with new science from the US Forest Service and we will now release an update of the online tools as well. To see an outline of these updates go here.
Primary updates affect carbon storage and sequestration estimates produced by these tools due to the inclusion of additional species-level carbon equations and new wood density data. Pollution removal and hydrology effects may also be impacted by the new methods for estimating leaf area, leaf biomass and new shading coefficients.
Once the update is released on 5/3/2021, these online tools will have the latest USFS science in place. Re-running previous projects may yield different results. If the differences themselves are important to your work, you may want to capture results from the current version(s) of the online tools listed above in order to help you understand and communicate how these science updates affect estimates.
