Next Monday is the Annual State of Minnesota Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration. This year's celebration is geared towards students so I wanted to make sure you saw the email below with details about the event, including links to activity and discussion guides.
And, our very own Dr. Lanise Block is part of the virtual celebration! She helps facilitate a conversation with the keynote speaker, Matthew A. Cherry.

2021 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration
Hello Minnesota School Leader,
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan are excited to celebrate Dr. King with students across the state next Monday, January 18.
This year's celebration is virtual and geared towards youth. We want to make sure students, teachers, and families can participate so please consider sharing the information below, which includes activity and discussion guides.
Event Details
The 40-minute celebration features messages from youth, Governor Walz, and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, and the singing of Lift Every Voice and Sing.

It also features a conversation with our keynote speaker, Matthew A. Cherry, who is an award-winning director, writer, and producer!
His animated short film and book, Hair Love, follows the relationship between Zuri, her natural hair, and her father. It is a powerful story about family, love, and loving ourselves.
Consider watching and/or reading Hair Love before or after watching the virtual celebration.

During this celebration, we’ll discuss how Dr. King fought for justice and love, worked to end racism and poverty, and what this means today.
When: Celebration premieres at 10:30 am on January 18. The video will remain available indefinitely.
Where: Governor’s YouTube Channel
Accessibility: ASL and CART services will be provided in the video.
Languages: Video will be captioned in Hmong, Somali, and Spanish.

Activity and Discussion Guides
While the MLK holiday takes place on January 18, 2021, Dr. King’s legacy for justice and love, and his work to end racism and poverty, is a fitting discussion for any day.
