Benefits
Before construction, the bridge was the last low-height structure between Troutdale and Hood River on this critical freight route. Raising the existing 16.7-foot structure to 17.4 feet has allowed tall trucks to use I-84 instead of using alternate routes.

What were the benefits?
Using alternate routes, like Oregon 35 and U.S. 26, due to height restrictions on I-84 can be costly and time consuming. Using I-84 saves businesses time and money and improves safety on roads used as alternate routes.
Did ODOT consider lowering I-84 instead of raising Forest Lane?
Yes, we found raising the bridge height to be the most cost effective option while minimizing impacts to the environment and I-84 traffic.
Did you make any improvements to the bridge?
The bridge was raised to the new height and a new guardrail was installed that meets current safety standards. The raised bridge is the same width as it was before construction, but has been striped to show shoulders.
