Back-up School Business Data Off-Site Sign-Off
Per updated Session Law 2021-180 Section 7.79.(b), amended via HB 103 Session Law 2022-74 Section 7.1.(a) (bottom of page 27/top of page 28), all public schools units "...shall store their school business data at an off-site premises by June 30, 2023".  It is anticipated that fewer than 17 public school units are potentially impacted by this provision.

Per updated Session Law 2021-180 Section 7.79.(b), amended via HB 103 Session Law 2022-74 Section 7.1.(a) (pg 27-28), all public schools units should "...migrate the unit's or charter school's school business data to an off-site premises".  It is anticipated that fewer than 35 public school units are potentially impacted by this provision including the fewer than 20 mentioned above.

The intent is to try to insure that public school business data is not encrypted in a ransomware attack on a public school unit's network. Note that this Sign-Off is specific to Section 7.79 part (b) and NOT Section 7.79 part (c).

Assumptions: All but one of the ~30 SunPac districts data is already migrated off premise. All but 33 of the ~80 LINQ v6 districts are already migrated off premise. Approximately 50% of the 33 aforementioned already pay LINQ an annual fee for off-site back-ups meeting the technical "shall store... ...off-site" requirement. NCDPI is reaching out to the 17 districts that do not currently pay for the Maintenance Plan regarding adding the Maintenance Plan now. It is our understanding that 202 of the charter schools are hosted at LINQ or already have FIN/Payroll processed/hosted off premises of the school(s). We seek to confirm these assumptions with this PSU CFO Sign-Off prior to August 31, 2022.
