October is Fire Safety Month, and we want to remind you of a few steps to take to reduce the likelihood of having a fire – and how to escape safely in the event of one.

The City of Hurst is offering citizens an ambulance subscription service to help offset the costs of emergency ambulance transportation. Insurance companies routinely do not pay the entire amount of ambulance transportation, leaving the patient with the responsibility of paying the balance of the bill. The purpose of the subscription service is to cover the amount not covered by your insurance provider or Medicare. If a person does not have health care insurance, this program covers emergency medical services delivered prior to hospital arrival. For $60 per year per family, you will never have to worry about paying an ambulance bill. Medicaid Recipients are not eligible for this Ambulanceprogram.

City project promotes creativity, community outreach

The second project in the City of Hurst’s Art is Public Places Initiative was “Temujin” by Pati Stajcar. This sculpture is of a bronze eagle rising out of the City Hall fountain. Sculptor Pati Stajcar has received national recognition for her extensive work in bronze, stone, and

The City of Hurst’s Art in Public Places Initiative was designed “to develop a strategic plan to incorporate civic art, cultural enrichment, and historical programs in the community through Community Services’ resources, facilities and sponsored programs.” To date, there have been three phases of the Art in Public Places Initiative.

The third project in the City of Hurst’s Art is Public Places Initiative was “Remembrances of My Home Town” by Janice Hart Melito. This piece, comprised of three monolithic columns that symbolize the past, present, and future, was created specifically for the Heritage Village Historical Plaza. Each column is banded with sculptural reliefs that tell the story of the City and celebrates the community spirit of Hurst. Janice Hart Melito has been a full-time professional artist with a focus in sculpture, painting and drawing mediums since graduating from Texas Christian University with a Masters of Fine Arts Degree. Her work has been shown throughout the United States as well as in Madrid and Buenos Aires and she has created public art for many cities in Texas. You can see this piece at the Historical Plaza at Heritage Village at 841 W. Pipeline Rd.

wood. Pati creates sculptures of many different subjects, but birds are her specialty. Pati’s passion for her subject and her art are clear in this piece, Temujin, which means “rider of the heavens.” Pati has said of Temujin that, “A bird on the wing riding the thermals skyward can make the spirit rise… but the majesty of a bald eagle in flight is nothing less than inspirational.” You can find Temujin outside of Hurst City Hall near the Neighborhood Services entrance.

More information on the City’s Art in Public Places Initiative can be found at hursttx.gov/artinpublicplaces“Temujin” by Pati Stajcar

The first project in the City of Hurst’s Art is Public Places Initiative was “Poems & Promises” by Rosalind Cook. This elegant and contemplative bronze sculpture graces the entrance of the Hurst Public Library. It reflects the spirit of the Library and the inspiration available for those who seek it in the written word.  The sculpture is a limited-edition bronze casting of a young woman contemplating the words she has just read in a book of poems she holds. The Hurst Library Board requested a poem by Emily Dickenson to be added during the lost-wax process, making this casting unique to Hurst. Admirers can view this eight-line poem written on the book’s pages. The Board Members selected it to express the power of the written word and how accessible books make the world without the expense of travel. Poems and Promises was dedicated in 2004, and you can find it near the entrance of the Hurst Public Library.

The City is excited to announce an official partnership with HEB ISD to support the construction of a new Bellaire Elementary and the redevelopment of the entire campus.

WHERE WE LIVE | FALL 202212

Construction of the new elementary facility is scheduled from October 2022 to December 2023. Dates are subject to change due to weather or construction delays. Upon completion, operations will shift to the new school, and demolition of the old facility and final site development will commence. All work on the campus is expected to be complete by the Fall of 2024.

customers and community at-large. The exchange of property will allow Bellaire Elementary students to remain on-campus during construction. This was a top priority for school district officials as they continue to enhance learning environments for aspiring students throughout the district. I’m glad the City was able to assist, and I look forward to the completion of another successful redevelopment project in Hurst.”

A strategic partnership, formalized by an interlocal agreement, includes a land conveyance by both entities that expands Hurst Community Park and increases the Bellaire Elementary campus to accommodate a reconfigured site layout. This new modern campus will be constructed without interfering with the student’s learning environment or the need for relocation during the process. Once the new campus is complete, it will offer better traffic management, abundant staff and parent parking, a new playground for the community, and a vital infrastructure enhancement to the neighborhood. The expansion of Hurst Community Park will bring a future opportunity for redevelopment in the south portion of the park as the funding allows.

“We are extremely fortunate to have a strong working relationship with our community partners like HEBISD,” said Hurst City Manager, Clay Caruthers. “Our partnerships allow us to better serve our
