Description

The Sixth Judicial District is seeking applicants to fill a Court Operations Supervisor position to work in the St. Louis County Court Administration Office in Virginia, Minnesota. 

This is highly responsible supervisory and technical work in a District Court of the Minnesota State Court System. Under the supervision of a higher level court manager, work involves the direct supervision of subordinate staff; development of standards, controls, and policies necessary to administer the various programs and services; maintenance of standards within the framework of established Court and Court Administration policies; and coordination of the work towards the department's objectives.

Example of Duties

  • Directly supervises the processing of all cases filed in the assigned court, division, or unit and matters relating to maintenance of financial control over receipts and disbursements and special accounts. Assigns, directs, supervises, and coordinates the work of all subordinate staff of the unit making provisions for hiring and training of such staff.
  • Directs the work flow of the division to ensure that work is fairly distributed, that priority work is handled promptly, and that deadlines are met. 
  • Develops, recommends and implements new policies and procedures to comply with current statutes and regulations as they pertain to the division; and simplify work processes so that the division operates more efficiently. 
  • Interprets statutes, rules, and orders and provides recommendations on procedural questions to attorneys, subordinates, and the general public.
  • Maintains employee personnel records and payroll; responsible for purchasing activities, inventory, equipment maintenance, and the management and disposition of court records.
  • Provides orientation to staff members regarding new rules and legislation pertinent to the division and updates appropriate manuals for current use.
  • Participates in and supervises a major functional area of the district court involving case intake, case management, civil, criminal, traffic, conciliation, family, juvenile, or probate; supervises the preparation of court orders, bonds, judgments, and warrants; prepares or supervises the preparation of court calendars and various dockets.
  • This position is anticipated to work at Virginia office, assignment to court office on the Range will be determined based on business need.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the court or area of assignment. 
  • Thorough knowledge of the organization, operations, functions, and scope of authority of the court or activity to which assigned. 
  • Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory and management techniques. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the automated court information system. 
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to juggle multiple high priority tasks. 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and establish ongoing relationships. 
  • Extremely dedicated, organized, and is team oriented. 
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse personalities in a tactful, decisive, and resourceful manner. 
  • Ability to make work decisions in accordance with law, regulations and departmental policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and prepare reports from such records. 
  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate employees engaged in a variety of court activities.
  • Ability to travel regularly between Virginia and Hibbing Court Administration Offices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved high school/GED or vocation school; considerable experience as a Court Operations Associate and some supervisory experience, or
  • A combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, public administration, management, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience as a Court Operations Associate.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience.
