Summary/Background:
In response to a request from the School Board, an external review of FCPS’ special education program was conducted by the American Institute for Research (AIR) which began December 2020 with the final report being presented at the October 4, 2022, School Board Work Session which included 19 recommendations for FCPS consideration.
In order to address the recommendations received by AIR and prioritize work to support students with disabilities, the Department of Special Services proposed the development of a three-year Special Education Enhancement Plan constructed by a diverse group of FCPS stakeholders to focus the work in the division, specifically as it relates to students with individualized education programs (IEP) and students with Section 504 plans.
Today’s presentation will provide an update on the development of the Draft Special Education Enhancement Plan with emphasis on draft actions responsive to AIR’s recommendation.
