Welcome to Hounslow Council's Bulky Waste Collection Service, a cost effective and convenient collection service for the removal of large household items that are too big for normal household waste collection bins such as broken furniture and fridges.
To use the Bulky Waste service, you must be registered to pay Council Tax in Hounslow and your payment details must match your Council Tax address. Landlords with properties in the borough can also utilise the Bulky Waste service which is a new edition to the service.
Collections are available 5 days per week (Mon - Fri) with the option to select your preferred collection day (subject to availability) resulting in reduced waiting times and greater flexibility. We will only accept items that are in a clean and dry condition (as far as reasonably possible) and we will not accept items that are or have been stored in a damp area causing mould or a pest infestation.
If you live in a flat, please note that items will only be collected from a communal area and you must seek permission from your landlord before leaving the items out for collection.
Collections can take place anytime between 7am and 3pm on your chosen collection day. Your items must be presented at the agreed collection point by 7am.
Costs:
The cost is £41 for up to 5 items, with any additional items charged at £8.20 per item.
Residents in receipt of Council Tax Reduction are eligible for the discounted rate of £15 for up to 5 items, with any additional items charged at £3 per item.* Council Tax Reduction is a means tested Council Tax discount and refers to residents in receipt of income-based Council Tax Reduction (single person occupancy, student and class U exemption and disregard discounts do not apply). You will need to provide your six digit reference number when making your booking.
The cost to landlords is £72 for up to 5 items, with additional items charged at £14.40.
You can use the service as many times as you want, making it easier for residents to dispose of their bulky waste items all year round.
Remember the minimum charge is for up to 5 items, so it may be worth waiting until you have 5 items to dispose of before booking a collection.
Examples of large household items we can collect from your home:
- Furniture
- Mattresses and beds
- Strong clear bags (3 bags equals 1 bulky waste item, so a standard 5 item collection could be up to 15 bags - Each clear bag MUST NOT exceed 10kg in weight)*
- Bicycles
- Electricals
- Computers and televisions
- White goods (e.g. refrigerators and washing machines)
- Cooking oil - no more than 25 litres in a sealed container
*clear bags must be strong, tied and not overloaded (under 10kg per sack). They cannot include general household waste, hazardous waste and sharp items must be wrapped to avoid piercing. If the item does not fit into a standard clear bag then that item will need to be considered as 1 whole item

Items we cannot collect:
- Garden waste (soft, bag-able) - the garden waste collection service or Space Way Re-Use and Recycling Centre should be used for this type of material. Large trees should be felled/cut back by professional arboriculturists with the waste disposed of as part of this service. Smaller trees can be collected through the Garden Waste service but must be cut into manageable pieces
- Cast iron baths, pianos, paving slabs, rubble - these items are too heavy for two operatives to lift. We recommend using a specialist contractor for these.
- Tyres, asbestos, meat, fluorescent tubes, chemicals, paint or other hazardous waste - the vehicle is not licensed to carry this waste
- American style fridge freezers and any item that is too large and too heavy for two operatives to lift.
- Items that cannot be lifted by two operatives, this includes sofas that are waterlogged as a result of rain (it is advisable to cover these items to keep them dry before the collection day)
- Items over 6 feet/183cms in length or height. Items larger than this will need to be cut down to under 6 feet / 183cms. This includes wardrobes, sofas, tables or any furniture item that is larger than 6 feet/183 cms.
We cannot collect or remove waste generated from home improvements. If you have carried out the improvements yourself then it is advisable to hire a skip or to take your waste to your nearest recycling centre. You may be charged for this service as it is classified as industrial waste.
If a contractor has carried out this work and you have asked them to dispose of the waste, it is your responsibility to know where the contractor is sending your waste and that they are a legal operation. More information on your duty as the producer of the waste

What are the alternatives to booking a Bulky Waste collection?
1. Visit Space Waye or your nearest household waste recycling centres
2. Sell or donate your unwanted items:
Use social media groups or websites like eBay, Gumtree, Freecycle, Freegle or Facebook Marketplace. You’d be amazed at how one person’s trash can be another’s treasure! Only donate items to charity shops when they're open. Leaving donations outside charity shops which are not open is fly tipping!
3. Use a registered waste carrier to collect your rubbish. Use Love Junk where 98% of the items collected are recycled or reused.
Everyone has a legal 'duty of care' to ensure your household or business waste is disposed of correctly. If it's your waste, it's YOUR responsibility.
- Suspect all waste carriers. Don't let them take your rubbish until they provide proof of registration. Note their vehicle's registration plate.
- Check that a waste carrier is registered on the Environment Agency's website.
- Refuse any unexpected offers to have your rubbish taken away.
- Ask how your rubbish will be disposed of - seek evidence of this.
- Paperwork must be obtained: a proper invoice, waste transfer note or receipt, including a description of the waste being removed and the waste carrier’s contact details.
