Webinar Topics

The Individual and Community Preparedness Team in Region 2 developed a toolkit on how to start a Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) or club in your school or community. The Ready Youth Toolkit in a Box offers: guidance on how to start your own YPC, suggested emergency preparedness training and best practices, as well as many templates that can be easily duplicated. Starting a YPC gives members a variety of benefits, including skill building and networking. It can also be a pipeline to the National FEMA YPC, where teens can apply for and team up with a select group of like-minded youths from across the country.

Who should attend?Educators, school administrators, after-school programs, youth-serving organizations, parents, young adults, and other members of the whole community.

FEMA Region 2, the Federal Executive Boards (FEB) of Newark and New York City and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) held a special webinar on emerging drug threats.

Subject matter experts from the DEA discussed the emerging drug threat of counterfeit pills, including the rising opioid related overdose deaths. The webinar educates the public about dangers associated with counterfeit pills and also connects people with information and resources.

In crisis and emergency events, children think and respond in a different way than adults do. They also have specific needs according to their age and are more vulnerable to adverse effects according to their physical size and their social and emotional capacity to connect with service providers. Knowing the expected reactions of children and adolescents according to their stage of development will provide us with more information for an adequate support intervention by applying activities and strategies appropriate for their age. Join this Region 2 National Preparedness Division webinar in partnership with Americares.
