SALEM — Oregon lawmakers are nearly out of time to agree on new legislative and congressional districts, after Republicans on Saturday refused to show up for a vote on a compromise Democrats offered on congressional district maps.
It was a notable concession after Democrats for weeks stuck to their initial proposal for the six congressional districts and made not even the tiniest change, despite testimony from hundreds of Oregonians. That plan would have disproportionately benefitted Democrats, who would likely have reliably won five of the seats.
