We provide a range of local, friendly 14 to 19 study programmes. These are government funded programmes for 14 to 19-year-olds designed to meet your individual needs in preparing for further learning, training or employment.
Learners will:
- increase their confidence
- gain essential skills
- gain qualifications for work
- go on to other education or work
We design the programme to support each person.
16 to 19 study programmes
The programme is available for young people aged 16 to 19 (and up to 24 with an educational health care plan) if they are any of the following:
- not in education, employment, or training (NEET)
- at risk of becoming NEET
- children in care
- a care leaver
The programme includes essential skills for progression:
- maths and English GCSE or functional skills
- digital skills
- a chance to attend a supportive work placement
Most learners will also choose a vocational course, these might be:
- hospitality
- construction
- customer service
- health and social care

14 to 16 part time study programme for electively home educated learners (EHE)
Electively home educated learners are young people whose parents or carers have chosen to be responsible for their education. If you are home educating your child or considering that option, please email cs.ehe@derbyshire.gov.uk.
DACES offer a part-time study programme for EHE young people (year 10 and year 11 age).
This programme is designed to supplement the education parents are providing at home and cannot exceed 310 hours per year.
We focus on:
- maths and English (functional skills or GCSE)
- digital skills
- employability
- creative skills
- qualifications to support progression and personal development
18 to 24 supported internship for learners with an educational health care plan (EHCP)
An educational health care plan is a legal document for young people aged 0 to 25 who require additional support for their education. DACES are the education provider for our supported internships which are a bespoke transition to work programme for students with disabilities.
14 to 16 alternative provision
Our local, welcoming and small study programmes can be suitable alternative for learners in year 10 or 11. Schools or pupil referral units can contact us to discuss specific elements of our programme that we could provide for learners on their roll using a service level agreement.
