New chair takes helm of the Board of Supervisors

District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson took the helm during the first meeting of the new year replacing District 2 Supervisor Robert Weygandt as part of the annual rotation. We also review what we know – and don't yet know – about the rapid, recent rise in COVID cases in our community. Read report


Free COVID boosters and testing available in Roseville & Truckee

Free COVID-19 boosters and vaccines are available throughout Placer, including at our community clinic in Roseville. Schedule an appointment today at MyTurn.ca.gov to protect yourself against COVID variants.

Free COVID-19 testing is also available weekdays, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., in Roseville at the Maidu Activity Center at 1960 Johnson Ranch Drive and Truckee at the Old Gateway Center at 10990 Donner Pass Road (closed Dec. 31). Appointments can be scheduled online at https://lhi.care/start. Test results should be made available in about 48 hours. Rapid testing is not available at these testing sites at this time. Schedule appointment

Placer protects 336,000 acre-feet of groundwater

Our Board of Supervisors this week approved a multi-agency plan to protect 336,000 acre-feet of groundwater in portions of western Placer. The goal of the plan is to avoid depletion of the resource and maintain groundwater levels for those that need it most like our farmers and residential well users. Read more


Help shape wildfire mitigation in your community

We have extended the application period for three open positions on the Placer Sierra Fire Safe Council until Jan. 21. The council represents Colfax, Secret Town, Alpine Meadows, Weimar, Applegate, Clipper Gap, Eden Valley, Alta and Dutch Flat. The recent storms are a reminder of the challenges we face living in and around our wildlands. These councils serve to provide guidance, coordination and feedback to address these challenges. To preserve critical infrastructure that serves all, including hospitals, on Jan. 4, Placer County Public Health extended its health warning advising residents regardless of vaccination status to use high-quality masks in indoor public settings to protect against the Delta and Omicron variants.
