Aptakisic Road Reconstruction - 5 Things to Know
Construction is expected to kick off soon on a project to reconstruct a 1.2 mile stretch on Aptakisic Road from IL 83 to Buffalo Grove Road. Here are five things you should know leading into construction.
1. Why is Aptakisic Road being reconstructed?
Aptakisic Road is a highly traveled corridor with nearly 20,000 vehicles passing through each day. Current traffic volumes are at capacity. New development and the lack of alternate routes has contributed to the high capacity demands. This project will remove a "pinch point" on the west-end of the road by providing a 5-lane roadway cross-section from IL 83 to Buffalo Grove Road, while also filling in bike path and sidewalk gaps. Once completed, Aptakisic Road will have a continuous 5-lane section from IL 21 to IL 83, while also filling in bike path and sidewalk gaps.
2. Road improvements to expect
Aptakisic Road from IL 83 to Buffalo Grove Road will be reconstructed to feature a new 5-lane roadway cross-section which includes:
- Two travel lanes in each direction
- A road median with left-turn lanes
- Traffic signal improvements at IL 83, Brandywyn Lane and Buffalo Grove Road
3. Non-motorized improvements to expect
Crews will connect the bike path and sidewalk gaps that currently exist along Aptakisic Road, linking the Buffalo Grove path system with downtown Long Grove. Crosswalks at each street crossing will be improved and upgraded to ADA standards.
4. Traffic Impacts
No road closures are expected. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction. Temporary lane closures may occur a few hours per day to complete major work. Motorists are urged to drive carefully, watch for flaggers, and be aware of trucks entering and exiting the job site.
