New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli released an economic snapshot of the South Bronx today, showing growth in jobs and businesses despite the area being hard hit by the pandemic.
The data in the report shows that in 2022 the South Bronx had 20% more businesses than in 2011. It also said jobs increased 25% during that same time period. Additionally, the comptroller says median household incomes rose and poverty levels declined.
DiNapoli said going forward that more needs to be done to address crime, affordable housing, physical and mental health as well as quality of life concerns in the area.
