Homeless outreach service in Hastings

This month outreach support for the homeless community in Hastings will transfer to Integrated Care 24 (IC24).

After many years supporting Hastings’ homeless community with their health and care needs, St John Ambulance (SJA) will be bringing their outreach services to a close in January and their teams are thanked for all of their hard work to support people in and around the town.

Integrated Care 24 (IC24), which already runs Hastings Primary Care Hub at Station Plaza Health Centre in the town, will continue to support the homeless community with a GP and nurse-led service that builds on the valuable work of SJA, ensuring that some of the most vulnerable members of the local community continue to receive the care that they need.

From 29 January 2024, GP and nurse sessions will continue to be provided from Seaview on a Monday afternoon from 1pm at Southwater Centre, Hatherley Rd, St Leonards-on-Sea TN37 6LB). Nurse only sessions will also be provided from Seaview on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 1pm.

There is no need for a pre-booked appointment and people can just turn up to receive help for a range of healthcare issues.

The nurse sessions currently provided at Warming up the Homeless in Priory Street will move to Hastings Primary Care Hub, based at Station Plaza Health Centre in the town centre.

Care navigators and volunteers will continue to do outreach in this area to notify members of the homeless community that the service is moving and where they can continue to access services when they need them.

Care navigators and/ or volunteers will also attend Wellington Square Baptist Church on Wednesdays from 9am to 3pm to provide advocacy, support, and care signposting.

IC24 is a provider of NHS primary care and urgent care services in Sussex and across the country. Hastings Primary Care Hub is an advanced nurse practitioner led service, supported by GPs for people who are not registered with a GP practice, are vulnerably housed, homeless or are refugees.

On the day appointments are available for members of the community from 8am until 6.30pm on weekdays, 8am until 8pm at the weekend, and 8am to 8pm on Bank Holidays.

Thank you to everyone at St John Ambulance who has supported the homeless community over the years in Hastings.
