As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be a SME advising and reviewing all projects in the region on best practices and compliance of projects to Federal and GSA standards. As SME, the Mechanical Engineer will diagnosis problems with existing mechanical engineering systems and formulate solutions.

The GS-13 salary range starts at $105,471 per year.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEERS: A Degree in professional engineering OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience. For specifics on qualifying education and/or experience - use the following link: Basic Requirements for Engineer Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is applying professional mechanical engineering principles, concepts, and practices in the design of construction or alteration projects involving large and complex buildings or major building systems; and the coordination of the activities of architects, engineers, tenants and construction contractors on such projects. Such experience must also include having independently managed projects (balance scope/quality, schedule and budget) requiring the services of multiple disciplines from project initiation phase through project closeout.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): In addition to the qualification requirements listed above, you must also meet the following SPF, which has been identified as: you must be a registered professional engineer in the United States or its territories.

Ability to develop, revise, and publish regional policy, guidelines, regulations, and handbooks on engineering design specifications and design criteria for applicable engineered building systems and equipment for use in a variety of government owned and leased buildings. Provide comment on agency policy development.
Ability to serve as a senior advisor on various scientific and engineering committees internal and external to the agency.
Mastery professional knowledge of and skill in apply advanced theories, concepts, and principles in the engineering field sufficient to: Review plans, specifications, and concept and feasibility studies with sufficient cross discipline experience to insure mechanical, electrical, architectural, and controls systems work together cohesively, including extensive experience: designing, reviewing, and implementing building automation systems (BAS) controlling complex HVAC systems, advanced lighting controls, and advanced metering systems.
Experience writing, analyzing, and implementing complex sequences of operation for interdependent systems and equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, boilers, and pumps.
Ability to investigate and resolve problems and conditions in engineered building systems and equipment impacting costs, efficiency, safety, and performance.
Ability to serve as a senior consultant and expert advisor on applicable engineered building systems and equipment for facilities that are proposed, being designed, under construction, or occupied throughout the region.
