DEC welcomes all visitors to explore state lands, and we are committed to providing an ever-increasing range of accessible outdoor recreation opportunities. See Accessible Recreation Destinations to explore the range of wheelchair accessible opportunities statewide including an interactive online map to identify accessible features on DEC lands.
The DEC Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Public Notice provides visitors with information about how DEC complies with the ADA. Service animals and wheelchairs are permitted in areas open to the public at all DEC sites in keeping with the federal ADA Regulations.
In addition, DEC seeks to accommodate people with disabilities by offering Discounts for outdoor recreation, Free/reduced fee sporting licenses, Permits and accommodations for hunters with disabilities, and Motorized Access Permits for People with Disabilities (MAPPWD) for people with qualifying disabilities.
The DEC Accessibility Program, composed of ADA Accessibility Coordinators, focuses on expanding access for people of all ages and abilities. See the article on Accessible Outdoor Recreation on New York State Lands in the DEC Conservationist magazine to learn more about our program and the work of the Accessibility Advisory Committee (PDF) to the DEC and Adirondack Park Agency.
