Board Of Health

The Board serves as the public health authority for public health services in Wasco and Sherman counties. The Board will approve an estimate of the cost of maintaining the Health District for the ensuing fiscal year. The Board also advises the Director and requests information from the Director as the Board deems necessary, adopts resolutions and rules, not inconsistent with or less strict than any public health law or rule of the Oregon Health Authority, for the protection and preservation of public health and keeps minutes of all meetings of the Board.

Immigration/citizenship status no longer affects whether someone qualifies for Oregon Health Plan benefits

As of July 1, 2023, more adults are eligible for full Oregon Health Plan (OHP) benefits, regardless of their immigration status.

Who is eligible?

  • People who live in Oregon and

  • Meet income and other criteria.

For example:

Before, a 45-year-old without a qualifying immigration status could only get CWM benefits (also known as emergency Medicaid).

As of July 1, 2023, this person is eligible for full OHP benefits.

Columbia Gorge Community Food Assessment

The 2021 Columbia Gorge Community Food Assessment (CFA) aims to create a snapshot of our entire food system in Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman counties. The project team interviewed community members to explore relationships between production, distribution, health, hunger, equity, land, and community. This project is an update to the 2011 Columbia Gorge Community Food Assessment and is part of an ongoing project of Oregon Food Bank.

Local Health Data

NCPHD collaborates with Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to collect information on a range of health related issues. Internally, we use this data to guide program development, target and evaluate program progress, identify emerging health issues, and as a basis for epidemiological research.
