Showcasing the Arts

Arts Week in Kentucky

In these times of social distancing and self-isolation, there are still ways to enjoy the company of friends, like participating in the Kentucky Arts Council’s virtual Kentucky Arts Week, Feb. 22-26!

During that week, we’ll be sharing short videos from elected officials, arts leaders, artists and friends of the arts, like YOU. This is a chance to voice your support for Kentucky artists, arts organizations and the work of the Kentucky Arts Council. (See a sample video and more information here)

How can you participate?

Record yourself with the video camera on your smart phone or other device. The script below is meant as a guide, but you are welcome to come up with your own message about why the arts are important to you, in support of the arts in Kentucky.

Messages should be about the positive effect of the arts on your life and how it influences your creativity. Your video should be short — 30 to 60 seconds.

SAMPLE SCRIPT:

Introduce yourself…
“Hi! I’m [NAME] and I live in [NAME OF YOUR CITY OR COUNTY].”

SELECT A PROMPT BELOW TO PERSONALIZE YOUR MESSAGE:

  • “I love the creative community where I live because…”
  • “One of my favorite local arts groups/artists is…”

Here are some helpful statistics you can use with your remarks

  • Did you know Kentucky is home to more than 95,000 jobs in the creative industry? That number includes painters, sculptors, dancers, actors, musicians, arts educators, writers and so many others who make their livelihood from art.
  • Did you know that Kentucky’s creative industry generates more than $2.3 billion in earnings per year?
  • Did you know that, prior to the pandemic, Kentucky’s arts nonprofit organizations were generating about $257 million a year in revenue?

CLOSE WITH:
“Thank you to the Kentucky Arts Council for your work, and to the continued support of the Kentucky General Assembly for the arts in Kentucky.”

PLEASE send along the text of your scripted remarks with your video. That text will be used to caption videos to be accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing.

When you’re ready to send, just submit the file here. The deadline for submission is Feb. 12! We hope you’ll join us in this celebration and follow along during Kentucky Arts Week. Above all, have fun with it!
