State Facts for Students

Help students learn about their state as they collect, organize, analyze, map, and graph a variety of information in “State Facts for Students.” They have the opportunity to examine data about kids their age, as well as a variety of other facts selected to appeal to young students.

Reminder: Please be sure to update any bookmarks or links to the State Facts for Students tool. To save a specific state link, select the “Share” icon on the menu at the bottom of the tool when viewing that state. Make sure the “Current View” tab at the top is highlighted. Copy the link and paste it into your browser to save it as a bookmark.  

Activities Using this Resource

Changes in My State
Students will learn about their state as they collect and organize business information using State Facts for Students, a U.S. Census Bureau data tool.
The Place of My State
Students will use a U.S. Census Bureau data tool called State Facts for Students to analyze the population data of their state.
Using Fractions to Compare Amusement Parks By State
Students will predict how many amusement parks are in their state.
Comparing My State
Students will compare data for two states using comparison symbols and both rounded and unrounded (exact) numbers.
Looking at Numbers of Births Using a Line Graph
After looking at census data, students will determine the birth years of children who were aged 8 through 11 in 2022.
Scavenger Hunt: Where is Gina the Geographer?
Students will participate in an online scavenger hunt based on a story that a geographer named Gina has escaped to an undisclosed location.
Numbers That Tell a Story
Students will use State Facts for Students to explore data about their state and voice their opinions on how the population has changed over time.
