No-Cost Mental Health Teletherapy for All High School Students

FCPS has partnered with Hazel Health to help eliminate barriers to quality mental health care services for all high school students, at no cost to families. Therapy sessions with Hazel Health are a safe space and are private and confidential.

With Hazel, your child can get the mental health care they need, at home, at no cost to you.

Hazel is HIPAA compliant.

Hazel’s therapists can help your child with:

  • Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss
  • Anxiety, worry, fears
  • Social skills, bullying, peer & family relationships
  • Academic stress

How to Access Services

To access services through Hazel, you must complete steps 1-3. 

  1. Give permission (opt in) for FCPS to share basic demographic information with Hazel

    • By opting your child into Hazel Health, you will have access to virtual mental health services at no cost if the need arises.
    • If you opt in, FCPS will share the following demographic information with Hazel Health: student name and date of birth, parent/guardian name(s), and parent/guardian contact information.
    • By opting into sharing this information, you will be able to schedule appointments for teletherapy services for your child without the involvement of FCPS staff. Opting in will also allow your school counselor, social worker, or psychologist to submit a referral for teletherapy services for your child on your behalf. Please note that by opting in, you are not consenting to services. A separate parent/guardian consent for services will be required for youth under the age of 18 to access teletherapy services. 
       
  2. Consent for Hazel Mental Health services on the Hazel Health FCPS website.
     
  3. Students can be referred to therapy by a guardian OR by a designated school staff member.  You can refer your child to therapy by calling (571) 749-2940 or by contacting an FCPS school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of student services.
     
  4. Your child participates in weekly therapy sessions
    Hazel matches your child with a licensed therapist and contacts you within 48 hours to schedule an appointment. The therapist helps to address identified concerns during weekly virtual therapy sessions. Appointments are available at home, Monday-Friday, from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
     
  5. Therapy completion
    Your child achieves their therapy goals and is discharged from the therapy program.
     
  6. Care coordination
    If needed, Hazel helps connect your child with long-term mental health services in the community. 

About Hazel's Therapists

  • Hazel’s therapists are locally licensed.
  • 50% of Hazel providers identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC)
  • 40% of Hazel providers are bilingual speaking more than 15 languages

Opt-In Information
