Thank you to everyone who participated in our town hall yesterday, where Board Vice-Chair Katy K. invited public comments from #LosAngeles community members. Public and Federal Board Members listened to the lived experiences of #accessibility and barriers in the LA area. Comments from members of the public included their experiences with transportation, sidewalks, information & communication technology, and more. Town hall guests included community leaders, artists & creatives, caregivers, and people both with and without #disabilities. We're honored to have had the chance to hear from so many community members! The Access Board serves the public, and we can serve you best when everyone is a part of the discussion about #equality, #equity, and advancing #accessibility for all. See you next time, LA!

The Access Board is an independent federal agency that promotes equality for people with disabilities through leadership in accessible design and the development of accessibility guidelines and standards. Created in 1973 to ensure access to federally funded facilities, the Board is now a leading source of information on accessible design. Government & Technology’s Top 25 for 2024 Bringing advocacy and innovation to the forefront for an accessible future. Public Affairs Specialist, U.S. Access Board. PhD student: Organizational Leadership
Partnerships are critical to the advancement of equitable and accessible progress! This marks the United States Access Board’s first ever Memorandum of Understanding and we are so excited to partner with American Association of People with Disabilities and Center for Democracy & Technology to address accessibility and AI together alongside the disability community!
This week, the Center for Democracy & Technology launched a partnership with the American Association of People with Disabilities & the United States Access Board to support the Access Board's work under the Biden AI Executive Order on how AI impacts people with disabilities. I couldn't be prouder of this opportunity to ensure disability rights are better emphasized in conversations about the risks and opportunities of AI, a key focus of our work at CDT. Efforts like OpenAI's new launch with Be My Eyes show the potential for AI tools to improve accessibility -- but only if products are designed with the disability community at the table. Meanwhile, discussions about AI bias *must* include disability as a key area of concern. We need more people at this table! If you want to get involved, CDT's project on Disability Rights in Technology Policy wants to hear from you, led by my outstanding colleague & advocate Ariana Aboulafia. More about the Access Board partnership here, including my remarks at Wednesday's signing ceremony of our official MOU: https://lnkd.in/e8G6W88n
